-- Families are Welcome: Please consider bringing your families. While you'll be busy participating in agenda activities, there is plenty for them to do on their own. They are also welcome to join us for Thursday night's group dinner.
-- Hotel Check-In Procedure: The Royal Sonesta Dupont Circle has a rooming list on file. Your name is on the rooming list. Regular check-ins begin at 4:00 pm EST. Upon arrival, refer to the Cooperating School Districts of Greater Kansas City room bloc and provide your name. You will be asked to provide a valid US Government issued photo ID and a credit card payment for all costs associated with the stay (room rate, fees & taxes, incidentals, etc.) at that point. There are no pre-travel steps that you need to complete prior to your departure.
-- Hotel Check-Out Procedure: 11:00 am EST is the regular check-out time. Please remember to receive a hard copy of your receipt when checking out. Doing so may avoid after-the-fact work if you aren't correctly emailed your receipt PDF by the hotel.
-- Hotel Confirmation Numbers: Please find attached a spreadsheet containing the confirmation numbers for your stay at the Royal Sonesta Dupont Circle.
-- Hotel Cost: The room rate is $319.00 daily. There is a 14.95% DC fee and tax rate. The estimated total cost per night will be $366.69.
-- Hotel Neighborhood: The area that the Royal Sonesta Dupont Circle is located in is called Dupont Circle. When making dining plans, the Dupont Cicle, Adams Morgan, 14th Street, West End/Foggy Bottom, and Georgetown neighborhoods are close, easily accessible, and within walking distance. More information on the Dupont Circle area can be found at https://washington.org/index.php/dc-neighborhoods/dupont-circle
-- Hotel Fitness Center: The Royal Sonesta Dupont Circle fitness center is available 24/7 to guests. It is equipped with ellipticals, weight machines, dumbbells, treadmills, and more.
-- Getting to the Hotel from the Airport: Getting to the hotel from the airport should be relatively easy for you, especially if you’re somewhat familiar with Washington, DC, as many of you are. I recommend using a cab to get from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) to the hotel. Upon arrival, exit your gate and proceed to the baggage claim level, which will be the bottom floor. You’ll take an escalator down to this level. If you have checked bags, pick them up here. Once you have all your luggage, proceed outside and look for the cab stand. It is typically at the end of the arrival pick-up lanes. Get in line (if there is one). When asked where you are going, respond generally with “DC.” If they require a more specific answer, respond with DC Dupont Circle. They will assign you a cab. Once inside, provide the specific name and address of the hotel destination (Royal Sonesta Dupont Circle Hotel, 2121 P Street NW, Washington, DC 20037). The cost of the cab should be between $20.00 - $30.00.
-- Rideshare Services: I recommend downloading Uber & Lyft if you don’t already have them on your phone before arriving in DC. These will be very useful to you as you navigate the city. DC isn’t very big geographically. However, after a long day of walking, you may want the simple option of being picked up as opposed to walking more or riding the Metro.
-- Metro (Subway): DC Metro (WMATA) allows you to pay for Metrorail and Metrobus using a contactless credit/debit card or mobile wallet (Apple Pay, Google Pay) through the "Tap. Ride. Go." system. Simply tap your card or phone on the reader at faregates and on buses; no SmarTrip card is needed. More information on using the Metro can be found at https://www.wmata.com/fares/how-to-pay/tap-ride-go.cfm
Thanks to all,
Tyson Elbert
